FARIDA MAHDY, GRANDMA AND THE FUR COAT

I've always wanted to document my relationship with my grandmother, particularly over the past four years, when I lived with her while I was in college.
Throughout the past year I kept doing my research and learning more about the family archives, including how my late grandfather used to shoot them on occasions and how much he enjoyed taking pictures of my grandmother. Since no one has shot her since his death, I decided to do something for her.
I wanted to shed light more on what happened with time passing since my grandfather passed away and how everything changed even the buildings in the neighborhood and the family tree.
She wore the dress I'm wearing to her engagement party, and for the fur coat she wanted to give it away and sell it, it was one of her favorite pieces. 
This project was created with a great deal of affection for grandpa, fashion, and the family and it's a self portrait of me with my grandmother.
I truly believe the bond between the picture and the open call theme that behind this picture and the whole project was all about connecting with one important family member who is supposed to be the closest but due to the fast life that we have been through we forgot this connection.

Bio:

Farida Mahdy, 24 years old conceptual photographer from Cairo, Egypt, studied Photography, Cinema & Television at Applied Arts. 
Currently working at Photopia Cairo as Exhibitions Coordinator and main designer.
Featured on Vogue Italia twice.
Exhibitor in many local exhibitions: Holter Stills Exhibition in both editions (2021 & 2022).
