ISSUE TWO : IDENTITIES
Who we are is an amalgamation of bloodline, place, history and life path, amongst many other things. As image-makers, we are constantly asking the questions that unravel and form the sense of self. For our second issue titled: Identities, we are exploring the roads less travelled to understand the self and the communities we exist within. From themes of nationalism in Algeria, through the lens of Abdo Shanan / the complexities of gender and sexuality as presented by Tatenda Chidora & Rachel Seidu / urban landscapes and how they shaped who we are over four decades seen by Akinbode Akinbiyi / whether it through contemporary work or the archive, the dynamics of people, place & politics influence our realities and make us ask more questions on our journey.
Through our Who? Online Exhibition, we discover how to look inward, directed by the diverse perspectives of both emerging and established artists. Thank you to the 39 photographers, from across the African continent and beyond for entrusting us with their work. Our mission is to platform bold and exciting approaches in African photography, this would not be possible without the contribution of artists and the support of our community. For that, we are immensely grateful.
Upwards and Onwards,
