As of February 2025, we will be introducing some new changes to the platform: such as a new interface, in-depth interviews and so much more, under our subscription based membership. The decision to offer access to Tombe Magazine via a subscription was one guided by our vision for the platform and for African photography as a whole.
So you might be wondering, what’s the subscription fee?
Answer: $1 per month.
Our pricing is intentional as we still want to make the platform accessible to as many people as possible around the world, whilst creating an opportunity for our team to generate revenue for all the work being put into building the business. With this move, we have big plans as we enter 2025.
Here’s the vision:
● New interface: We will be elevating the design and feel of the website, we see ourselves as a global brand and want our platform to reflect that.
● Building a team: A large bulk of the workload is taken on by our founders, who are writing and curating constantly as we develop our issues and process the open calls.
We want to add more seats to the table, so to say, in order to ensure that our voice is a diverse and inclusive one.
● Physical Exhibitions: Although we are so excited about our current plan to develop digital group shows on the platform, we also see the opportunity to curate physical exhibitions in collaboration with notable galleries and museums across the continent and diaspora - and build space for exchange, connection and knowledge sharing outside of the internet.
● Expansion: Tombe is truly tapping into a gap in the media landscape, we are one of a few niche art & culture platforms and even though we are text based, we want to expand into other media such as long form video on YouTube, experimental print publishing and educational workshops on various modes of photo-based visual arts.
We hope you will become a member and join us on this journey into the new frontier for Tombe Magazine!
