JACQUES SMIT - OPTEL GOED IS ROU GOED

I am a South African photographer, musician and editor currently based with my family in Hanoi, Vietnam.
'Optel Goed Is Rou Goed' is a collection of found natural objects gathered in and around the seaside village of Rooiels. In Afrikaans, the word 'rou' means both 'raw' and 'to mourn' - a future possibility, past nostalgia, or state of vulnerability? The series is underscored by the notion of pareidolia - the perception of meaning in random visual patterns.
