ISSUE THREE - HOMELANDS

As the world gets smaller due to globalization, the definition of home simultaneously continues to expand beyond borders, culture and community. In our third issue we look at the myriad of ways photographers are observing their environments and coming to terms with the shifts happening in politics, and how these changes affect the people and places around them. Photography has the ability to look at the trials and tribulations of yesterday and envisage the possibilities of tomorrow. History and tradition is questioned and embraced, as a generation of young people seek to shape a future from the remnants. From the disappearing everyday monuments of Ethiopia’s cities consumed by modernization to the old towns of Egypt that seem to be transfixed in a bygone era. How African image-makers are viewing home is ever-evolving, resulting in compelling new investigations and discoveries about the places we go to find refuge, care and sense of identity.
